The Digital Shadows: Love, Lies, and Longing (Part 4)

Secret Meetings and Hidden Hearts

Within a month of Aaric's proposal, Jacee and Aaric planned to meet for the first time. Jacee, whose family was strict, told her parents a lie. She said she needed to go to her college hostel, which was 600 kilometers away, to vacate her belongings due to a new college rule. Because of the lockdown, Jacee had been staying at home, and her parents agreed to let her go alone. Jacee planned to head to college first, where Aaric would pick her up.

The day of their meeting arrived, filled with mixed emotions. Seeing each other’s faces online was one thing, but meeting in person was entirely different. Jacee was excited, and so was Aaric. Without any guilt over lying to her parents, Jacee set out to meet him. After a long 10-hour journey, she finally reached the bus stand, where Aaric was waiting for her.

When they met, all their past fights seemed to vanish. They hugged, kissed, and exchanged sweet words, feeling a rush of emotions they had never experienced before. They took their first selfie together, capturing the moment of their long-awaited meeting. The journey to their destination was long and filled with changing weather - sunny, rainy, and chilly. But they didn’t mind. They stopped for breakfast along the way and finally arrived at the place they had planned to stay.

As they entered the room, Jacee felt a wave of happiness. She thought, after so many days, she was genuinely happy, laughing with her whole heart. They kissed and hugged, enjoying the moment together. Tired from the journey, Jacee went to freshen up. When she came out, she found Aaric standing in front of her in just his innerwear. She was shocked and confused. It seemed too soon to think about having sex, especially within an hour of meeting. But she thought maybe it was all because of love.

They began to kiss, and things quickly escalated. It was Jacee's first time, and it was painful. She lost her virginity at 19, believing Aaric to be a good and caring guy. They stayed together for two and a half days, and Jacee thought those days were the best of her life. They laughed, shared personal stories, ate, sang, and danced together. Everything was new and exciting for both of them, and Jacee was on cloud nine. During their first meeting, Aaric didn't say anything about her wearing short dresses. Although he had often spoken like a chauvinist during their calls, in person, he seemed super cool. She was happy to think she had found someone who truly loved, cared for, and respected her.

When it was time to go back to their homes, Aaric cried as Jacee boarded the bus. He couldn’t bear the thought of her leaving, worrying about when they would meet again. Jacee returned home, and Aaric went back to his.

Jacee didn’t like smoking or drinking, but Aaric smoked and drank a lot. She asked him to quit, and he promised her he would.

As soon as Aaric got home, he told his mom about Jacee, revealing that he was in love with someone from another religion. His mom accepted their relationship, and Aaric even showed her Jacee's pictures. Both Aaric and his mom were happy. Aaric told Jacee he had told his mom everything, and she was overjoyed. It felt like a blessing to her that he was so open about their relationship. Eventually, Jacee and Aaric’s mom started talking on the phone, and everything seemed perfect.

Jacee’s parents were often busy with their own work, leaving her alone at home. Feeling isolated, she found comfort in her secret meetings with Aaric. Whenever her parents were not home, she would invite him over. Aaric would travel 400 kilometers just to spend a few hours with her. They would meet in her room, have sex, talk, and laugh. Jacee felt special that he would make such an effort for her. She felt like he was the only person who truly cared for her.

But their relationship wasn’t always smooth. Aaric didn’t like Jacee’s male friends, nor did he approve of some of her female friends. Gradually, to keep Aaric happy, Jacee stopped talking to the friends he didn’t like. She began isolating herself from her social circle, thinking it was the right thing to do for their relationship. Aaric was also constantly bringing up her college ex-boyfriend, which caused even more tension. It was a cycle of happiness and arguments.

They started meeting secretly at Jacee’s house at night more often. As they continued, sex became a normal part of their relationship. They were young, Jacee was just 19, and Aaric was 20—yet they were doing things most people only do when they are much older. Sometimes, Aaric would stay in Jacee’s room for one or two days when her parents were away. Jacee, who often felt lonely and disconnected, found solace in Aaric's presence.

With each secret meeting, Jacee became more withdrawn from her life outside of Aaric. Her parents were frequently absent, leaving her feeling even more isolated. Their silence felt like an empty room, echoing with her loneliness. She cherished the moments she shared with Aaric, believing they were the only real connection she had left.

Moral:

"True love doesn’t demand secrecy or sacrifice your sense of self. It grows in the open, nurtures independence, and respects your connections with the world. In a healthy relationship, love supports, rather than restricts, your freedom to be yourself."
