From Messages to Midnight Calls :-

Jacee and Aaric met on Instagram. Aaric was persistent, sending her messages almost daily, despite Jacee not accepting his friend request at first. His determination was puzzling, but eventually, curiosity got the better of her. She accepted his request, and they began to chat. At first, it was just a normal conversation between strangers, filled with polite exchanges and light-hearted jokes.

Over the next five to six months, their conversations grew longer and more frequent. Eventually, they exchanged phone numbers, making it easier to stay in touch. But as they talked more, Jacee began to notice some unsettling aspects of Aaric's personality. He often spoke about his home life, where he expected his mother to do all the cooking and cleaning, even when she was unwell. He seemed to think these tasks were beneath him, not his responsibility. His attitude struck Jacee as sexist and old-fashioned, and she began to see that Aaric might not be the right guy for any woman who wanted equality and respect in a relationship.

Despite her growing concerns, their conversations continued. Then, out of the blue, Aaric stopped messaging her. A few months passed in silence, and Jacee tried to move on, convincing herself that this break was for the best. But one night, well past midnight, her phone rang. It was Aaric. The sound startled her awake, and with her heart racing, she hesitated before answering. His voice was slurred, but she didn't realize he was drunk. He confessed his feelings for her, saying he had fallen in love. Jacee was taken aback; she had never thought of him that way.

She tried to gently tell him that she didn't feel the same, but Aaric’s conversation took a turn she wasn’t expecting. He began to talk about sex, making her uncomfortable. She hesitated but ended up responding. However, a feeling of unease crept over her, and she finally asked if he was drunk. Aaric denied it, but something in his tone made her doubt him. She managed to end the call, feeling a mix of confusion and unease.

The next day, she couldn't stop thinking about the call. His words replayed in her mind, and she found herself questioning her feelings. Maybe there was something there, something she had overlooked. She confided in her friends about the call, admitting that she might have developed feelings for him after all. But Aaric’s behavior afterward was cold and distant, leaving her feeling vulnerable and confused. Hurt by his indifference, Jacee decided to stop reaching out.

Months went by without any contact, until one day, Aaric messaged her again, this time with a kindness she hadn't seen before. Slowly, they began talking regularly, and Jacee found herself drawn to him once more. On her birthday, Aaric sent her a heartfelt message on Instagram, and later that day, he called her on a video call. It was the first time they saw each other’s faces in real-time. Jacee felt a rush of excitement and nervousness.

After that, video calls became their new normal. They saw each other more often, shared more of their lives, and the bond between them seemed to strengthen. Aaric knew about her past relationships, especially her college love story. He often brought it up, sometimes teasing, sometimes scolding her about it. His jealousy flared whenever she mentioned her two male friends, and their conversations often turned into arguments.

Afraid of losing him, Jacee found herself crying, pleading with him not to leave her. She felt isolated and desperate for his attention, willing to do anything to keep him close. As their relationship deepened, their conversations became more intimate, sometimes venturing into sexual territory during their late-night video calls. Jacee found herself caught in a web of emotions—part attraction, part confusion, and a lot of fear.

A few months later, Aaric confessed his love again, this time with tears streaming down his face during a video call. Jacee was moved by his vulnerability; she had never seen a man cry for her before. Believing that his tears were a sign of true love, she decided not to let him go and accepted his proposal. But deep down, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.

What Jacee didn’t realize was that Aaric’s tears were just the beginning of a painful journey. She had no idea that accepting his love would lead her into a world of emotional turmoil, manipulation, and a struggle that would test her very soul.
